The Type R philosophy is about creating a race-inspired driving experience. Ultra-responsive steering, taut suspension, quick and precise gear shifting and aggressive brakes, coupled with a high performance engine, create a stunning synergy between driver and machine.

Engineering

For us, the racetrack is the perfect place to truly push ideas to the limit – a place where imagination is tested, as much as engines. Where else do you think an engine that revs to 8000 rpm would be born? The power and heritage of the 2.0 litre DOHC i-VTEC engine becomes apparent when it smoothly delivers 148 kW of power at 7800 rpm.

It’s all made possible by Honda’s VTEC technology which delivers extra power while maintaining low emissions and enviable fuel efficiency. All of which is mated to a close-ratio, 6-speed, manual gearbox with a high performance clutch allowing you to make some very slick gear shifts.

But it’s our obsession with extracting the maximum performance from every component that makes a Type R truly unique. Low friction, high compression pistons, hand-finished gas ports, a large diameter exhaust system, lightweight con-rods and a fully balanced crankshaft for smooth running at high rpm, make for one of the most potent, naturally-aspirated engines ever built. Free-revving, ferociously powerful, yet remarkably compliant and refined, they’re the heart, soul and voice of every Type R.

Interior

In racing, a split second can decide who gets the trophy and who doesn’t. To be able to make quick decisions, all of the tools and information need to be perfectly positioned around the driver. The new Civic Type R’s multiplex meter is designed to help you absorb information without having to take your eyes off the road.

It’s not just the controls and instrumentation that have to feel right. You only have to take a seat in the finely stitched Alcantara bucket seats to get the feeling of being behind the wheel of a finely tuned racing vehicle. All you have to do next is push the start button.

Exterior

With one look you can tell that the new Civic Type R means business. A low front, black honeycomb mesh grille, sculptured side skirts, aggressive lines and flared wheel arches housing 18-inch, seven-spoke, alloy wheels tell you that this is a car that loves to be driven.

The design of the new Civic Type R is not only aggressive, it’s cutting-edge. A slick rear spoiler mounted over the space-age rear hatch and triangular exhaust tailpipes, usually found on a concept car, demonstrate Honda’s commitment to innovation.
